Program that teaches pupils about healthy living

Lindbergh Elementary School's fourth grade kids recently have had a day full of accomplishments and surprises.

Lindbergh students completed the 4th Grade Celebration program, which was part of an eight-week cooperation between Mosaic Life Care and the district to educate children how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Lamiyah Howard, a fourth-grade student, said it felt wonderful to observe her growth each week.

As she commented, "I figured out that, like, I like to do push-ups and sit-ups. After I (had) done them for a while, I got better at it, and so it got easier."

Each week dealt with a distinct subject, with Mosaic officials explaining issues such as smoking risks, screen time management, and proper diet.

Lindbergh physical education instructor Chad McCoy believes it is critical that the curriculum emphasizes learning via physical activities and sit-down classes.

Per Lindbergh, they've done it previously when the kids sat for 50 minutes and were sedentary. "I like it where they keep them moving all the time. We never did one thing for a long amount of time, so the kids were always on the move."

Each kid earned a certificate for their endeavors, but they also received a visit from two fan favorites.

K.C. Wolf and Rally, the St. Joseph Mustangs' mascot, took part in the events, which Howard described as one of her favorites.

"It's really cool because my grandpa always wanted to see the Kansas City one and he would be proud right now since I got to see the Kansas City (mascot)," she added.

Students could also interact with the mascots and get autographs from them.

"Especially with the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, perfect timing for K.C. Wolf and Rally to come," McCoy added. "They're awesome with our kids, the kids loved them. This is probably the most excited our kids have been this whole time, so they were pumped up the whole time."
