YouTube TV will reportedly be priced at $72.99 a month

YouTube TV's price has risen again, making a monthly subscription 114% more costly than when the service first began six years ago.

The base plan, which includes more than 100 TV channels, will cost $72.99 per month for new members beginning immediately. This is a $8 increase from the previous price of $64.99 per month for more than three years. Current members will begin receiving the increased pricing on April 18.

YouTube TV said on Twitter that the price increase is due to increased content expenditures and an investment in its quality of service. The Alphabet-owned service just purchased the NFL Sunday Ticket rights from DirecTV for a whopping $2 billion each year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"We are committed to offering a premium way for you to stream TV, but understand this new price may not work for you,” the platform said in a tweet. “We do hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we want to give you the flexibility to cancel at any time."

Cable networks are requesting more money in order to combat cord cutting, which has resulted in price rises for all major streaming TV bundles. Sling TV, FuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, and DirecTV Stream, all owned by Dish, have raised their monthly pricing in recent months.

YouTube TV debuted in 2017 for $35 a month, and the price has since been raised four times. The price is beginning to compete with typical cable TV bundles, but streaming alternatives offer less fees, do not need cumbersome infrastructure, and are simpler to cancel.
