Hans Zimmer Writes Soundtrack for Latest YouTube Video by MrBeast
Zimmer, James Everingham and Adam Lukas compose original soundtrack for the video which tells the story of the YouTube star spending 50 hours in Antarctica.
What takes place if a YouTube celebrity and a celebrated movie composer each happen to be in Antarctica simultaneously? For Jimmy Donaldson (MrBeast) and Hans Zimmer, it means making a video and writing an original score for a YouTube video, everything within 12 days.
After arriving in Antarctica to shoot his most recent YouTube video, which sees the stunt-happy content maker spending 50 hours outside the Union Glacier, Donaldson promptly discovered that Zimmer happened to also be there. He took the chance to pitch the composer and, within just four hours, the duo made a deal to have the Oscar winner composing the music for the YouTube video, as commented by Donaldson.
According to his statement, the moment he heard Hans was there too, he knew he had to work with him on this no matter what it took.
"No one else would understand what surviving in such a crazy place is like! We had to get it done super quick, and when we reached out, he was just as excited".
To compose the soundtrack within a constrained time period, Zimmer called James Everingham and Adam Lukas, members of the Bleeding Fingers Music composer collective; the trio formerly collaborated on the music for the BBC docuseries Frozen Planet II.
The resulting video, “I Survived 50 Hours in Antarctica,” was posted on YouTube on Dec. 24. The music piece titled “Antarctica or Bust” is also to be available on Spotify via Bleeding Fingers Music.
“When MrBeast sets you a challenge, you can bet things are going to get crazy…. ‘Score my Antarctica video in just a few days, please, Hans? Challenge accepted!!' Zimmer noted in a statement. “We had a ton of fun, and we hope you enjoy.”
